Uploaded draft of “Hobo Under the Hood”

January 20, 2010

These was previously the last 200 pages of “Rapid Rails with Hobo”. As the latter was topping 500 pages, I reorganized and refactored them into two books that can be used as “companion” texts. “Rapid Rails with Hobo” includes the 27 tutorials. “Hobo Under the Hood” drills deeply into the infrastucture of Hobo and how it significantly enhances Rails.

Revisting the original goals of our book “Rapid Rails with Hobo”

January 19, 2010 6 Comments

“Create a full set of rock-solid instructions and tutorials so that
even a novice developer can create, revise, and deploy non-trivial
data-rich Web 2.0 applications. The user must have fun while
learning, and develop the confidence to take the next step of diving
in to learn more about Hobo, Rails and the elegant and powerful object-
oriented language behind these frameworks – Ruby.”

Toward that end we’ve decided to trim out the more “reference-oriented” Chapter “Hobo Under the Hood” as a separate publication. This makes the intro book more coherent and compact.

Revised Installation Instructions for “Rapid Rails for Hobo”

December 21, 2009

There is now a Ruby 1.9.1 Windows installer available (RC1).  Revised the instructions to start from Ruby 1.9.1 and use the Hobo 1.0 release candidate 2 (0.9.103).

Things are looking good!
